Once an instructor has required LockDown Browser for an exam, it is very easy for students to download, install, and use LockDown Browser to take their online test. Some learning systems require that students first open a standard browser, log in to the course, locate the exam, and then use the "Launch LockDown Browser" button. This will automatically launch LockDown Browser. Students can then start the exam (Step 4 below).

Respondus LockDown Browser is a free custom browser that locks almost the entire device to make sure that students take tests correctly. The browser may seem like an academic solution to dishonesty, however, students have still found out how to cheat with it. Respondus Monitor must access the device, webcam, and microphone for the student to take tests with the remote proctoring tool.

Alternatives to this Respondus LockDown Browser download are Honorlock and Proctorio. Students are limited to basic navigation actions. Honorlock and Proctorio are both Google Chrome browser extensions, whereas Respondus does not need Chrome to work.

This Respondus LockDown Browser download is available for school and home settings. The academic program is often used as a remote tool when students must take tests from home. It also integrates into Learning Management Systems, such as Canvas, Moodle, Schoology, and Sakai. Students need to install this Respondus LockDown Browser download and then log into the LMS.

This student download of Respondus LockDown Browser produces a rigid test-taking environment that does not encourage ease. Tests and exams are already sources of anxiety for certain students. This program exacerbates that stress by invading privacy and relying on technology to make decisions. Luckily, teachers can review the feedback to overwrite the marks that Respondus made.

While schools often implement the Respondus Browser and Monitor with positive intentions, the technology oversteps the privacy boundaries that students have. The browser and monitor track gestures, eye movements, sounds, and beyond. The footage gets rated based on what the tech deems to be appropriate or not.

The process for purchasing a single-user license of Respondus or obtaining a 30-day free trial is nearly the same. In both cases, you must first download and install the software. Then you need to either purchase a permanent activation password or register for a temporary, 30-day password.

Note to students: this is not Respondus LockDown Browser and is not a student application used for taking online exams. Contact your instructor to obtain the correct download link for LockDown Browser.

6. Respondus LockDown Browser is now installed and the software will launch automatically when you click on quizzes in Brightspace that require it. Important note: you must use a regular web browser to navigate to Brightspace.

Respondus LockDown Browser is a tool that allows students to take exams in a managed environment on their own devices. Below are some tips for downloading and using Respondus LockDown Browser for your course.

Respondus LockDown Browser (LDB) is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within Canvas. When students use Respondus LDB they are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, or access other applications. When an assessment is started, students are locked into it until they submit it for grading. It is available for both Windows, MacOS, and ChromeOS.

The Respondus LockDown Browser (RLDB) is a locked browser that prevents students from printing, copying, going to another URL, or accessing other applications during an assessment. When the RLDB is enabled for a quiz, students will be required to download and use RLDB to take the quiz or exam. Watch an overview video on LockDown Browser.

When students land on the quiz page of a RLDB enabled quiz, they will be provided a link to download RLDB. Students will not be able to access (start) the quiz until they are accessing the quiz page from the RLDB.

Note: Chromebooks are supported with limitations. Please refer to your instructor to see if iPads are allowed for your quiz as this setting must be enabled by the instructor. Students can also download the RLDB app for their computer or iPad using the links below.

Yes! Administering a practice exam before having your students take an actual quiz or test in RLDB will allow them to test their equipment and learn to use the system in a no-stakes setting. Because we know your time is valuable, eLearning has created a practice exam that you can import into your courses. Accessing the Practice Exam Everything you need to successfully download the practice quiz onto your computer and upload it into Canvas is included in the Box folder link below. Please read the instructions before attempting to download the .zip file.

We recommend compressing your images so that they are small files and can therefore be loaded quicker even with lower bandwidth internet connection. See this wiki on possible methods of compressing your images.Change Canvas Quiz Settings to show one question at time Canvas Quizzes show every question on a scrolling page by default which makes the web browser load all the images and may take a while. If instructors have a lot of images, they can change the quiz settings so that questions display one at time.

As of LockDown Browser 2.0.1.07 for Windows, accessibility is enabled for all users. Improvements to accessibility were added to version 2.0.3.00 for Windows. Please have all students on Windows platforms upgrade to version 2.0.3.03 and newer. The Windows version of LockDown Browser allows a student to use some screen reader accessibility programs, such as NVDA, JAWS, MS-Windows Narrator, ReadSpeaker webReader, and Windows-Eyes. In our experience, NVDA works the best. NVDA is free and available to download.

LockDown Browser (LDB) is a completely separate browser not a plug in. After downloading the LDB, the student needs to open the LockDown Browser software (found in applications) and access the exam through that browser. If the student is getting a message saying to download LDB, then they are still accessing the exam through a normal browser like Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari.

Respondus LockDown Browser (RLDB) is a custom browser that secures the testing environment in Canvas. It prevents printing, copying, accessing other applications, and closing a quiz until it is submitted for grading. Quizzes created for use with RLDB cannot be accessed with standard browsers such as Chrome or Firefox. Users must access the exam using RLDB.

If Respondus LockDown Browser (RLDB) has already been installed skip to the next section. If not, LockDown Browser must be installed to any computer (or iPad)/Chromebook if allowed by the instructor) being used to take a test. A link to download RLDB is provided on the quiz page. Additionally, students can download Respondus Lockdown Browser here.

Please note: If downloading for a PC, MAC, or Chromebook, students should use the UAB specific link to download RLDB found in the Canvas course or UAB eLearning website provided above. If downloading for iPad, simply search for Respondus LockDown Browser on the App store.

Your instructor might require the use of Respondus LockDown Browser for certain quizzes in your course. LockDown Browser is a locked browser used specifically for taking quizzes in Cougar Courses (Canvas). It prevents you from printing, copying, going to another URL, or accessing other applications (like Word) during a quiz. If a quiz requires that LockDown Browser be used, you will not be able to take the quiz with a standard web browser. Your instructor may also have enabled Respondus Monitor, which uses your webcam to record you while you take the quiz.

You cannot download LockDown Browser from an external link, you must do so from the Cougar Courses quiz/exam that requires it. Unfortunately this is only possible once the quiz is available. This is why we recommend instructors create a practice quiz that is available the whole term so that you can download LockDown Browser ahead of time and ensure it is working correctly at any point. If you do not see a practice quiz that requires LockDown Browser in order to download/test ahead of time, please contact your instructor to request they create one.

Students will have to have Lockdown Browser installed on their computers. Lockdown Browser is on the software loadset of the student computers. If a student is using their personal computer then they will have to download and install LockDown Browser on their machines in order to take a quiz or exam that is using the LockDown Browser security. Here are some short videos to give you an overview of how LockDown Browser works.

The LockDown Browser is not distributed publicly, in order to access the browser instructors must share a download link with their students either in an e-mail or included in their syllabus. To find the personalized download link, navigate to the Respondus LockDown Browser course tool, then open Step 2 within the Getting Started tab. A template message is provided that you can copy and paste to send to your students, this message includes links to instructional resources as well as the download link for the LockDown Browser.

This download is unique to Stockton University, and can be used across all Stockton courses. If a student has already installed the browser from another institution, they will still need to download Stockton's LockDown Browser.
